Many patients are surprised to learn that they can get BOTOX® and Dermal Filler injections at our office. Why go to a dentist instead of a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for facial aesthetic treatments? It’s simple: as dentists, we have advanced training in the anatomy and musculature of the face and jaw. There’s perhaps no one more qualified when it comes to facial aesthetics. When these treatments are combined with cosmetic dentistry, patients can achieve a complete smile makeover.

With BOTOX® and Dermal Fillers, the injections aren’t just skin deep—BOTOX®, for example, is injected into the muscles, so it’s important to understand which facial muscles need to be treated for the desired effects. At Metrowest Prosthodontics, we provide the following facial aesthetic services:

Botox Cosmetic in Framingham

BOTOX®, or in it’s medical name Botulinum toxin, is a wrinkle relaxer. So even though your brain may fire and signal for your body to move a particular muscle, BOTOX® effectively blocks that firing and keeps the muscle from moving.

In the past, Diamonds were a girl’s best friend, these days wrinkle relaxers are more like it and for a good reason.

You will see visible results in just 3-10 days, and it will prevent more fine lines and wrinkles from forming in the long term.

The effect of wrinkle relaxers will last for 3-4 months.

Wrinkle relaxers are also used for TMJ treatment, for slimming the face, and to enhance lip augmentation, also known as a “Lip flip”.

So, say goodbye to looking tired and aging skin and say hello to a youthful and more refreshed look!

(BOTOX® Cosmetic is derived from the neurotoxin botulism and used for both therapeutic and cosmetic treatments. Cosmetically, we offer BOTOX® injections to reduce lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet. BOTOX® can also be used to treat migraines, TMJ disorder, jaw pain, and teeth grinding. The effects of BOTOX® usually last about four months before re-treatment is needed.)

Benefits of BOTOX® for Men

Women have been using BOTOX® for several years, but men are only beginning to discover how it can impact their appearance and self-image. Many men feel self-conscious about signs of aging, especially when their partner is younger.

Here are several major benefits of BOTOX® injections for men:

Reduces Forehead Creases

Men are often unhappy with the frown lines called “elevens,” which appear between the eyebrows when they furrow their brows. Over time, these lines set. BOTOX® relaxes the forehead muscle but does not paralyze it, meaning that patients still have natural face movements.

Reduces Crow’s Feet

BOTOX® also reduces crow’s feet, the “smile lines” at the corners of the eyes. While these wrinkles are small, they make a strong impression.

Slims the Face

The Masseter muscles on either side of the face become bulky when patients grind their teeth or have TMJ (temporomandibular joint) syndrome. BOTOX® relaxes these muscles, slimming the face and changing its contours.

Dermal Fillers

What is Dermal Filler?

Dermal Filler is a gel-like substance, made out of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally present in our body. There are different brands of fillers with different consistencies for different areas in the face. Our fillers ƒcontain Lidocaine, so the procedure is comfortable throughout.

Over time, as we mature, we lose the deep fat structure in our face, our skin loses collagen and its elasticity and thins out, and our bone resorbs. As a result, our skin starts to sag, causing mid-face volume loss and the formation of jowls. This is where Dermal Fillers shine. A filler, placed in the cheek, is designed to restore the volume and plump the skin. When a cheek filler is injected, it draws moisture from the surrounding tissue, like a sponge, and helps restore volume lost through age, sun damage and other factors.

Strategically placed filler in the cheek will look naturally and will help reduce even the lines of the nasolabial folds. A filler can last up to a year , and is metabolized safely by the body.

Dermal fillers can be placed in other areas of the face as well: nasolabial folds, marionette lines and the lips, to help provide a youthful, vibrant look.

So, isn’t it time to invest in yourself?

If you’re not sure whether BOTOX® or dermal fillers are best for your needs, we are happy to schedule a consultation and discuss your options.

FAQs About BOTOX® and Dermal Fillers

What Is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is an injection made from a toxin derived from the microbe causing botulism. This injection temporarily reduces muscle activity, targeting facial wrinkles. The injection is also useful for TMJ relief, slimming the face, and other cosmetic and medical applications.

BOTOX® is an effective, reversible treatment that helps both women and men feel better about their appearance. Men are beginning to discover the benefits of BOTOX® in bringing them a more youthful yet natural look.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers last between six to 12 months, depending on the type used and the area being augmented.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are safe, although some patients do experience mild side effects. These include a rash, itching, redness, bleeding, bruising, or swelling at the injection site. There’s also a risk of small bumps caused by an allergic reaction and skin discoloration.

Do fillers make wrinkles worse?

Some patients worry that once their dermal fillers wear off, their skin will sag or wrinkles will worsen. This isn’t the case—as long as your filler injections were not excessive, your skin will simply return to how it looked prior to your injections.

Is BOTOX® a poison?

BOTOX® is made from Clostridium botulinum, which is the toxin that causes botulism, a serious form of food poisoning. BOTOX® injections are completely safe, though. You cannot get botulism from BOTOX® injections.

How long does BOTOX® last for TMJ?

BOTOX® for TMJ usually lasts between three to five months. With continuous treatment, you may be able to go longer between injections as the muscles relax and recover.

Does BOTOX® for TMJ change face shape?

Yes, many patients see their facial shape change when they get BOTOX® injections for TMJ pain. The BOTOX® relaxes the over-used masseter muscles in the jaw. As these muscles are allowed to relax, they will shrink, giving patients a softer facial profile and improved symmetry.

Am I a good candidate for BOTOX®?

BOTOX® works best for mature people with healthy skin. It is most effective on dynamic wrinkles, which come from muscle contractions associated with natural facial movements.

If you have a skin infection or are allergic to any component of BOTOX®, you may not be a good candidate for the injections. Also, people with neuromuscular conditions like multiple sclerosis or myasthenia gravis should not use BOTOX®.

Is BOTOX® reversible?

Yes, the treatment is reversible. The effects last from 3 to 4 months, with some patients reporting that it lasts up to 6 months.

Will BOTOX® “freeze” my face?

Today, BOTOX® is used more subtly than in decades past, meaning it will not “freeze” your face. It will reduce facial movement and wrinkles but will not look unnatural.

Many male patients who get BOTOX® report that the treatment makes them look well-rested and relaxed.

Are BOTOX® injections painful?

The dentist may use a topical anesthetic, making the procedure painless. Even without the anesthetic, patients typically feel only a small pinch.

Does BOTOX® have any side effects?

There may be minor side effects, but most patients tolerate the medication well. These side effects may include a headache or pain at the injection site.

Why do men choose to get BOTOX®?

Many men believe that a more youthful appearance helps them in their personal and professional lives. Often, men who have younger partners want to turn back the clock.

Professionally, many men feel they have an easier time competing with younger colleagues if they take action about their appearance.

Finally, many men feel self-conscious about their appearance and believe that getting BOTOX® would help them like what they see in the mirror. The self-esteem boost can improve their lives.

What are the pros and cons of BOTOX® for men?

BOTOX® is a fast, reversible wrinkle solution. Unlike plastic surgery, it does not require weeks of downtime. It creates a more natural appearance than plastic surgery.

As mentioned above, the treatment may have minor side effects like bruising and swelling, but it is safe and effective when injected by a professional.

Why should I get BOTOX® from a dentist?

Our skilled dentists have extensive knowledge of facial muscles and anatomy. They can safely administer this treatment and help you feel more confident in your appearance. An injection can easily be completed in the dental office to save time.
